How Can I Identify and Remove Asbestos?
You can perform an asbestos inspection on a property and take a sample of any suspicious materials to be analyzed at an asbestos testing lab. Professional asbestos removal contractors have been training and have the corrected equipment to remove asbestos products. Due to its health hazards, DIY asbestos removal is never recommended.
Asbestos has been used in more than 3,000 products, from paint to ceiling tiles to boiler insulation to cement sewage pipes. Asbestos can only be identified with an asbestos testing kit – a visual identification is simply not sufficient. Any product only has to contain 1% asbestos to be considered an “asbestos containing material” (ACM) and therefore a serious health risk.
We’ve created an article on how to identify asbestos in your home, which you can use as a go-to guide if you believe you have any asbestos products in your house. Also, we have specific articles about different products that were made with asbestos to help you to understand and identify these should you encounter them.
We also have an article explaining the process and cost of an asbestos inspection.
We strongly recommend that you don’t take any chances with this extremely hazardous material. If you have any doubt about whether any products in your home or elsewhere contain asbestos, get a sample tested straight away to ensure that you and your family remain safe.
